In class this week we discussed learning experience and it's relationship with performance task. The learning experience tasks are to help strengthen understanding the content within the unit. It will better prepare your students for the performance task a form of summative assessment. This relates to the NCTCS in that "Teachers use a variety of methods to assess what each student has learned." The learning experiences that teachers use are a series of formative assessments. As a teacher the activities I assign to students will give me an opportunity to see if they truly understand the content. If they do no understand the content then I have the opportunity to intervene and correct instruction. This clarification of instruction will then better prepare them for the performance task.
In my tweets of the week I tried to focus more on multimedia as a tool in the classroom. My favorite article is "8 ways to help students watch video critically." I think we've all been in this situation. It's almost summer your teacher throws on a hour long movie that you'll finish next class. You really intend to watch it but find yourself looking out the window zoning out. The article helps that from happening. I hope you enjoy it.
Chris,
ReplyDeleteThis week has been filled with a lot of information that will benefit us with creating our lesson plans. I saw your tweet about ways to watch videos critically and it was quite informative. It talked about keeping the students accountable for what they are watching and even referenced the WSQ idea. This was addressed by Crystal Kirch who was a part of our video modules in the Flipped Classroom program. I thought that was so cool that the two different websites were connected. Thanks for sharing that article, and great blog post!
Chris, I love the way you explained learning experiences! At first, it was hard to understand the difference between learning experiences and performance tasks because they are so closely related. They are simply the supports for the students to perform well in the performance tasks. Great point about watching videos critically! It's important we aren't just filling time but we make sure are students are engaged and learning.
ReplyDeleteChris,
ReplyDeleteYou did really good at getting a better understanding of the difference between learning experiences and performance task. Great connections you made there with the both of them. Understanding that one is more summative and formative, allowed me to understand it better. Your connections to the videos in school was so true. I know sometimes, I was that student that looked out the window. Its a great article to read. Continue learning and collecting information. Good Job!
Chris,
ReplyDeleteGood connections here with linking the NCTCS to the performance task and the learning experiences! It IS important for teachers to have a variety of assessment tools!
